A special Leisure Wheeler Ride on a Saturday.
Aldershot, Hamilton Harbour, Burlington
Note: This is a 48 km advanced Leisure Wheeler Ride.
This delightful ride, normally on a Sunday, will be on Saturday in order to more easily navigate the TTC and the GO Train schedules. We take the Niagara Train from Union Station to Aldershot. The ride then begins at the Aldershot Go station and follows quiet roads to the Royal Botanical Gardens. We then ride around Hamilton Harbour. After the harbour, there are approximately 10 kms through the centre of Hamilton to reach the east end of Hamilton and the entrance to Confederation Park and the Hamilton Beach Trail. From that trail, we cross into Burlington and end at the Burlington Go. This will be an all day ride, probably ending at 3:00 pm. (late lunch/early supper afterward for those who wish).
After the Ride: Join us at "The Express" restaurant (Italian Bistro with pizza, pasta, salads) http://expressrestaurant.com/burlington/menu.html on Lakeshore Rd. in Burlington before we go to the GO Station. It has a large patio but we will need to reserve. If you would like to join us at the restaurant, contact Sandra by 5:00 pm, Thursday July 10 at leisurewheeler@tbn.ca
Bring: snacks, (or picnic lunch), extra drinks, spare inner tube. Wear helmet.
This ride may be cancelled due to the weather. Notification of cancellation will appear after 6:40 AM.
There are washrooms at Union Go and Aldershot Go. At 18 km we can stop at "Grandad's Donuts" to buy a morning snack. At 32 km we will stop again so that you can eat another snack you have brought or your picnic lunch if you are not going to the restaurant.
START: Plan to meet at the YORK concourse for the GO train at Union Station at 8:40 AM
Note: If you decide to drive to Aldershot GO, please let us know and meet us at the exit on the north side of the Aldershot GO Station at 10:05 AM. Be aware that the ride will end in Burlington. You would have to find your way back to Aldershot and your car.
We will take the Niagara Excursion Train which leaves Union Station at: 9:05 AM It arrives at Aldershot at 10:03 AM where we will exit on the north side of the station. This special train is preferable because it has bike racks on the lower level of some cars. The return train from Burlington is not a special Niagara Excursion Train and will not have bike racks.
