City Walk – Union to Port Lands Loop

  • 12 Jan 2020
  • 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Union Station, new Lower Level Food Court

Meet at 10 AM in Union Station, (not the subway station, but the actual train station), in the new Lower Level Food Court, (near the GO York Concourse). We are usually in the south-west corner of the Food Court, near Bangkok Buri, Sansotei Ramen, Scaccia, and Roywoods.

We will walk about 10 Km from Union Station to the Port Lands and back. Phase 1 of the $1.25 billion Don Mouth Naturalization and Port Lands Flood Protection Project is underway. This project will provide flood protection for land at the mouth of the Don River, create the foundation for a future island community on the waterfront, with neighbourhoods where people will live, work and play, as well as create new parks and natural areas. We will look at some of the areas that will be modified by this project.

Three web sites that have information on this project are:

The walk will be entirely on city streets and sidewalks, but due to the construction, there may be some mud or gravel. Light hiking shoes or boots, suitable for the weather conditions would be appropriate.

Points of interest and early exits are at:

  • 0.0 Km – Union Station Food Court (coffee/bathroom)
  • 2.2 Km – Distillery District (bathroom)
  • 6.4 Km – Tim Hortons, 589 King St E., (coffee/bathroom/early exit to King streetcar)
  • 7.0 to 9.0 Km – not more than about 400 m to early exit via Queen streetcar

Please check https://www.ttc.ca/Service_Advisories/Subway_closures/index.jsp in case there are any further changes.

Non-members are welcome. They will be asked to sign the waiver form but will not be charged the non-member fee.
