City Walk - Balzac's to Honest Ed's

  • 29 Jan 2017
  • 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Balzac's Reference Library location, near the Bloor-Yonge subway station

Winter City Walk - Meet at 10:00 AM at Balzac's Reference Library location, near the Bloor-Yonge subway station, one and a half blocks north of Bloor and Yonge on the east side of Yonge.

A number of prominent buildings in Toronto have been slated for demolition or major transformation. We will visit some of these including:

  • The McLaughlin Planetarium
  • The Dominion Public Building
  • Union Station
  • 100 Adelaide
  • Honest Ed’s/Mirvish Village

The walk will be about 10 Km, and end at Bathurst station. There will be an optional extension to Bloor-Yonge station for a total of about 12 to 13 Km.

The walk will be entirely on city streets. Since we will be downtown, close to either subway stations or streetcar lines at all times, there will be opportunities for those who wish to leave early.

There will be a bathroom stop at about 4 Km, and a coffee/bathroom stop at Tims at 5 to 6 Km. We will stop at the Monarch Tavern for snack/lunch break at 8 to 9 Km, before proceeding to Honest Ed’s/Mirvish Village.

I phoned the Monarch, and they say they will be open at 1 PM on Sunday. The kitchen will not be open, but you can bring in your own food, from home or from any of the sandwich or pizza places nearby. They expect that a cask conditioned ale will be available.

This is an official TBN event. Non-members are welcome to join us. They will not be charged the non-member fee, but will be asked to sign the waiver form.

Just to let you know, we will not be having a walk on Sunday, February 12, but instead will be walking the day before, on Saturday, February 11.

If you have any questions, please contact me at citywalks@tbn.ca.
