A Sunday Leisure Wheeler Ride on a Saturday!
TTC Note: Subway, Line 1 will be closed From York Mills to St. Clair all day Saturday and Sunday
Bring: snacks, extra drinks, spare inner tube. Wear helmet.
This ride may be cancelled due to inclement weather. Notification of cancellation will appear after 6:30 AM.
Note: Because of the distance, this is a 55 km advanced Leisure Wheeler Ride. There is also a VERY steep downhill walk (10%grade) for about 8 minutes. It might be difficult to walk with a heavy e-bike. It is NOT possible to ride on this downhill spot because we will be walking on the shoulder against the traffic.
This unusual ride, normally on a Sunday, will be on Saturday in order to more easily navigate the TTC and the GO Train schedules. We take the Niagara Train from Union Station to Aldershot. The ride then begins at the Aldershot Go station on the NORTH side (where the washrooms are). This route will take us gradually to the escarpment above Hamilton where we will view the Albion Falls and the Devil's Punchbowl Conservation area. We then have a STEEP downhill walk and continue with a ride along the Hamilton Beach Trail. From that trail, we cross into Burlington and end at the Burlington Go. This will be an all day ride, probably ending at 4:30 pm. (early supper afterward for those who wish).
After the Ride: Join us at “The Express" restaurant (Mediterranean Bistro with pizza, pasta, salads) http://expressrestaurant.com/burlington/menu.html on Lakeshore Rd. in Burlington before we go to the GO Station. It has a large patio but we will need to reserve. If you would like to join us at the restaurant, contact Sandra by 5:00 pm, Thursday September 19 at: leisurewheeler@tbn.ca
There are washrooms at Union Go and Aldershot Go.
START: Plan to meet at the YORK concourse for the GO train at Union Station at: 8:40 am. We will arrive at Aldershot at 10:06 am and meet on the NORTH side of the station (where there are washrooms).
We will be taking the Niagara Excursion Train which leaves Union Station at: 9:08 am. It arrives at Aldershot at 10:06 am This special train is preferable because it has bike racks on the lower level of some cars. The return train from Burlington is not a special Niagara Excursion Train and will not have bike racks.
