*** Please note that if the weather turns out to be a bad as predicted, we may shorten or alter the route to avoid heading into the wind and/or stay closer to subway stations. We can decide what to do at the starting point. ***

At about 10:00 AM, meet at North Toronto Memorial Community Centre, 200 Eglinton Ave West (about 500m west of Yonge and Eglinton, on the north side of Eglinton). The closest subway station is Eginton, on Line 1 (Yonge Line). Note that we will meet at the Community Centre, not the Arena (which is a bit farther north). We will meet near the front doors, about 50m north of Eglinton and Lascelles Blvd. The walk will begin at 10:10 sharp.

We will be walking about 10 Km, and will end up at Eglinton subway station on Line 1 (Yonge-University). We will have a look at some of the Art Deco buildings in midtown Toronto. These are not the soaring skyscrapers (by 1920s standards) of downtown, but smaller scaled edifices including a theatre, a synagogue, some houses, and some apartment buildings.

There are washrooms at the Community Centre at the start, and we will stop for a coffee/washroom break around the middle. A couple of kilometers from the end we can stop at the Blooming Orchid for lunch or a snack, and there will be an optional washroom stop at the North Toronto Community Centre before we continue on to Eglinton Station.

The route will be on sidewalks and gravel multi-use paths (Kay Gardner Beltline), so please wear shoes or boots appropriate for the weather.

The closest public transit to the start is Eglinton Station. There are no  scheduled outages at this time, but please check https://www.ttc.ca/service-advisories/subway-service#e=0 in case there are any changes.

Points of interest and early exits along the way include:

  • 0.0 Km – North Toronto Memorial Community Centre (start of walk)
  • 0.7 Km – The Eglinton Grand
  • 2.4 Km – Lauren Harris House
  • 3.0 Km Holy Blossom Temple

Let's celebrate the ending of a successful TBN walks season with a lunch for City Walk participants on Sunday, March 9, in the party room of a condo building near Sherbourne and Adelaide E. Participants will be asked to contribute $5 to cover costs. Home-made lasagne (meat and vegetarian) will be served along with a couple of salads and dessert. There will be red and white wine and pop, or you can bring your own beer or other drinks if you wish. Please register by emailing citywalks@tbn.ca before March 2, if you plan to attend.
