This ride may be cancelled due to inclement weather. Notification of cancellation will appear after 6:40 AM.
Note: This is a 48 km advanced Leisure Wheeler Ride.
This delightful ride, normally on a Sunday, will be on Saturday in order to more easily navigate the TTC and the GO Train schedules. We take the Niagara Train from Union Station to Aldershot. The ride then begins at the Aldershot Go station and follows quiet roads to the Royal Botanical Gardens. We then ride around Hamilton Harbour. After the harbour, there are approximately 10 kms through the centre of Hamilton to reach the east end of Hamilton and the entrance to Confederation Park and the Hamilton Beach Trail. From that trail, we cross into Burlington and end at the Burlington Go. This will be an all day ride, probably ending at 4:30 pm. (early supper afterward for those who wish).
After the Ride: Join us at "The Express" restaurant (Italian Bistro with pizza, pasta, salads) http://expressrestaurant.com/burlington/menu.html on Lakeshore Rd. in Burlington before we go to the GO Station. It has a large patio but we will need to reserve. If you would like to join us at the restaurant, contact Sandra by 5:00 pm, Thursday July 13 at: leisurewheeler@tbn.ca
There are washrooms at Union Go and Aldershot Go. At 18 km we can stop at "Grandad's Donuts" to buy a morning snack.
START: Plan to meet at the YORK concourse for the GO train at Union Station no later than 8:40 AM
We will take the Niagara Excursion Train which leaves Union Station at: 9:03 AM It arrives at Aldershot at 10:00 AM. We exit Aldershot at the NORTH exit (That’s where the washrooms are)
This special train is preferable because it has bike racks on the lower level of some cars. The return train from Burlington is not a special Niagara Excursion Train and will not have bike racks.
Some people may choose to take the Lakeshore East/Lakeshore West Line. Each car which takes bikes on this line is limited to two bikes per car. When you arrive at Aldershot, be sure to proceed through the tunnel to the elevator at the north exit to meet the group arriving on the bike train.
