Niagara Bike and Hike

May 18-21, 2018

Member Registration starts Sunday, February 18.  Non-Member registration starts 2 weeks later on Sunday, March 4, 2018.

Join this always-popular ride along the quiet roads and off-road paved trails of the Niagara Region on Victoria Day Weekend. Note that this trip sold out in previous years.

“Easy to get to know people”

“A great place to bike with lots of options, this weekend is very good value … the small group of friendly riders makes it easy to get to know people.”

Anne Marie Corrigan, participant in 2016 and 2017

Accommodations

We’ll stay at the comfortable Niagara College residence near Niagara-on-the-Lake. You’ll have your own bedroom in a shared suite, complete with a shared full bathroom and kitchenette, including a refrigerator. For people who choose to bring their own food, providing your own meals keeps the cost down. For breakfasts in particular, riders are encouraged to bring breakfast supplies. There is also a Tim Hortons and McDonald's a short drive or ride away.

“Introduced me to new routes”

“I really enjoyed the weekend … I had biked in Niagara before, but I was introduced to new routes, new accommodation and great new restaurants.”

 Patsy Cook, participant in 2017

Friday Warmup Ride

For those who can get away early , on Friday afternoon we start with an optional  warmup ride along the bike path from Niagara on the Lake to Niagara Falls and back, covering about 50 kms.  This will be followed by supper at an affordably priced restaurant located nearby. In the past most riders have been able to make it for the supper on Friday evening.

“Loved the Welland Canal bike trail”

“One nice thing was how easy Niagara was to get to, we loved the Welland Canal bike trail up to Port Colborne and back.

Dawn and Randy Domm, participants in 2017

Saturday & Sunday Rides

Saturday’s ride (two distances) runs along the little-known paved off-road trail beside the Welland Canal. After their ride, participants can visit Niagara on the Lake nearby or sample award-winning beer from the Niagara College Teaching Brewery. This will be followed by a pot-luck supper in the Niagara College dining room and patio (weather permitting.)

Sunday’s ride (again, long and short) is a remote start along the paved trail beside the Niagara River Parkway. This will be followed by small group suppers at local restaurants, with a variety of cuisines and price points to choose from.

 “Great to ride new countryside.”

“Great to ride some new countryside I hadn’t explored before.”

 Mick O’Meara, participant in 2017
