ZWIFT Meetups

Who we are

We are TBN cyclists who want to ride all seasons, regardless of weather, by using the Zwift virtual riding platform. We ride multiple times a week through the late fall, winter and early spring months, on all of the Zwift worlds' routes. Our rides typically use the Zwift elastic band tether - this ensures that no riders are dropped from the group, regardless of ability or power exerted. We also typically use Discord to host group chats - we have found that there is more talking on our Zwift rides than IRL (In Real Life).

If you are new to Zwift, you can use the Discord chat to learn from your TBN co-riders about their favourite Zwift features, training plans, etc.

What Equipment You Need To Join Us

  • A trainer - While a Smart Trainer is preferred, Zwift also supports some Classic Trainers. Most current smart trainers are Zwift capable, and Zwift maintains a list of supported Classic Trainers.  Note that a Smart Trainer will increase resistance when you are climbing hills, while a Classic Trainer can not. There are a large variety of videos on YouTube that discuss Zwift and trainers.
  • A good fan. Trust me, you need a fan - maybe two. You will overheat if you are not in a constant breeze on your trainer.
  • A display device to run Zwift - you can run Zwift on devices as small as your smart phone, to a huge 4K TV. The Zwift software runs on IOS, Android, Windows and Macs, or Apple TV.  Note that some Android devices can not run Zwift (if it doesn't install from the PlayStore, it won't run). Also, some older PCs don't have the ability to run the graphics demands of Zwift.  - Installing Zwift is free - so it is it easy to test if it will work.
  • Zwift software - from zwift.com, or App Store, or Play Store.
  • A Zwift account - when you sign up, you can get a number free kms of riding.
  • Zwift Companion App - on IOS or Android - needed to find and sign up for TBN Club Events.
  • After you have signed up for Zwift, use the Zwift Companion App to follow "Martin Lansche (TBN)". This is necessary to be invited to our TBN Club in Zwift.
  • Video cable - if using Apple TV, or (optionally) you want to share screen from PC/Mac to your big screen TV.
  • Discord App - on IOS or Android, Windows, or Mac. This is optional, but it is free, and highly recommended.
  • (Optional) headphones with microphone for use with Discord App

Upcoming Events

TBN Virtual Riders Facebook group

We have a Facebook "private" group titled "TBN Virtual Riders" which we we will use to discuss/schedule rides, typically on relatively short notice. Any member of the group is welcome to schedule a Meetup.

To join the TBN Virtual Riders Facebook group, open your Facebook home page on your desktop or phone, use the search function at the top of the page to find "TBN Virtual Riders", and then just click on the "+ Join" button.

Difficulty of TBN Rides

  • Intro rides - usually about 60 minutes in length, under 300m of climbing, and always with the elastic band.
  • Exploring - around 90 minutes in length, between 300m and 500m of climbing, and with the elastic band.
  • Challenge - over 90 minutes in length, above 500m of climbing, and sometimes without the elastic band. These are meant to be challenging.

Currently we are scheduling Intro rides on Mondays, Exploring rides on Wednesdays, and Challenges on Fridays.
