This ride offers a gentler option for cyclists who prefer a more leisurely pace. This group will wait at turns and after big hills, but we expect you to be prepared to complete the route, with just a few pauses to regroup. Please arrive a little early so you can introduce yourself to the ride leader and tell them you want to join their group.
For other riders, this a Tourist level ride, and you should be prepared to be self-sufficient. If you are uncertain whether this level is appropriate to your riding level, click here.
Routes 48km (Gentler), 69km (Preferred), 82km: click here.
Ride leader: Martin Lansche
For those following the the 69 and 82 km routes, you'll take quiet country roads to the Hockley Valley General Store for a lunch/washroom break. The short route includes a couple of km of rail-trail with a mid-ride stop in Tottenham at Salvatore's Bakery (and coffee shop). All 3 routes cross Highway 9 at stop lights for safety reasons.
Washroom facilities: portable toilets are sometimes available in the parking area, or at the nearby park to the north. Alternatively, there are nearby Tim's & McD's on Hwy 27.
Check the website 2 hours before the start time - the ride could be rescheduled or cancelled at the discretion of the organizers.
Do you want to increase your cycling skill level? Be safer and more defensive rider Improve your safety on the road? Increase your confidence about riding on city streets? Whether you are a new or a long-term rider, there is always something to learn, some skills to improve, and, admit it, some bad habits to unlearn. Perhaps you are a TBN ride leader, but you are uncertain about what skills / behaviours to demonstrate and encourage as you lead your ride.
CAN-BIKE provides structured classes to help you with all this and more! CAN-BIKE provides a Canada-wide skills curriculum as defined by Cycling Canada, and is recommended by provincial governments and many Canadian cities.
Our CAN-BIKE classes are open to all TBN members.
When you register for this theory class, you will receive an email detailing how to complete an additional required online prerequisite education session. This will take you approximately 45 minutes. Please complete this ONE WEEK before the Friday session. If you fail to complete by this time you may be removed from the event.
We are not limiting attendance for the Friday Evening Theory Class. The Theory Class will cover the guiding principles of safe cycling: See, Be Seen, Be Predictable. Those principles then tie into the main CAN-BIKE mantra Maneuverability, Visibility, Predictability, and Communication (MVPC). The Theory Class also cover urban riding, rural riding, group riding, cold weather riding, warm weather riding, nighttime riding, human kinesiology/energy systems, and navigating.
Note: In order to complete either Level 3 or Level 4, students must also register and complete the complementing practical session. Go here https://www.tbn.ca/event-6188081 to find information for that event on June 14.
We are accepting Guest rider registration.
If you have not registered for the ride, you may NOT join the ride.
Be advised this is an Urban Roller class ride. It isn't a slow, or beginner ride. You should be able to cruise at about 20 km/h for 15 minutes at a stretch, and be comfortable riding grouped with other riders on city streets.

By using this system, TNTO aims to enhance the ride experience while respecting individual abilities and fostering a spirit of community among participants.
