More weekend trips coming soon!

New trips are in the works, but we would love to hear from you about trip ideas, or if you'd like to organize a trip, or get on the trips planning committee - even better!. Your feedback and discussion on existing trips and new trips is vital to the program.  Contact Brenda at weekendtrips@tbn.ca.

We open on a sad note.  It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of long-time TBN volunteer, Mark Brousseau, on April 16. Mark was a model TBN leader, working hard to find the most interesting routes, always waiting for stragglers and ensuring everyone's well being. Most recently, Mark was the coordinator of City Walks and led many a TBN member on fascinating and fulfilling walks through city of Toronto. Mark will be missed by all. Feel free to contribute your memories of Mark on the existing post you will find on the TBN Forum / In Memoriam. You can also sign the guest book here.

Finally, spring weather has arrived! Hopefully many of you had a chance to ride last Sunday.
Check out the large crowd of TBN'ers getting instructions prior to the Country Cruise; it was quite the day! There is more great weather in the forecast for this weekend, so check the TBN Ride Schedule and c'mon out to a ride.

Daylight is getting longer so now is the time to join the Wednesday Night and Friday Night rides.

For those of you new to TBN and hoping to learn more about which rides to join, check out the TBN Ride Classifications. If it's your first ride and you are unsure, then try an easier ride to start with. The Saturday Morning Ride is also a great orientation ride.

Remember that as a current TBN member, no registration is required for regular weekly rides, just show up and show your membership card to ride. You are also encouraged to invite non-members to try out a ride; they will be asked to sign a waiver and pay a $5 non-member fee. Should they decide to join at a later date, this $5 payment will be counted towards their membership. Everything anyone needs to know about joining the club can be found in the Membership FAQs.

The TBN Website - A Great Resource

Under the Resources tab on the home page, there is a list of other cycling events in the region that includes charity rides, gran fondos, weekend events and more. If you know of other rides in Southern Ontario, please submit same to webadmin@tbn.ca.

The TBN photo gallery on Flickr is starting to fill up with pics of early season rides. Remember to send your ride photos to  photoadmin@tbn.ca so that all TBN'ers can enjoy the pics. For those that post photos to Facebook, please forward those along too, as not all TBN members are on Facebook.

The Retailer and Services Discount Program  provides TBN members with discounts at participating businesses including bikes shops: Cyclethpath Yonge/Eglinton, Gears (all 3 locations), Browns, La Bicicletta, Urbane, Pedal Performance and Silent Sports. Services include rentals, tours, fitness, courses and art. There is also a special offer from one of our partners: Pedal Magazine. If your favourite shop or service is not on the list, tell them about the discount program and encourage them to contact TBN to sign up.

Do you want to see more content on the website? Please send suggestions to webadmin@tbn.ca. In fact, if you offer to help create the content, that will improve the chances of it being posted and sooner.

Remember that TBN is a volunteer based club, so the more everyone can pitch in, the better for all of us. If you wish to volunteer but are not sure in what capacity, then please email president@tbn.ca.

It's Contest Time

Answer the following question to win a $25 gift certificate from our good friends at Cyclepath Norco Yonge Eglinton: Name a new TBN weekend event.
Send your answers by Sunday, May 5, at 6pm to publicity@tbn.ca; a winner will be drawn and announced in the next issue of Chain of Events and on the TBN Facebook page. Remember that you must be a current TBN member to win.

You do not want your membership to lapse as later this spring, one Chain of Events contest will award a prize worth well over $100!

Commuter Bulletin

For those that use the TTC to get to the start of TBN rides, check here for upcoming TTC Route Diversions.

We have some membership housekeeping to inform you of and could use your help:
Firstly we realize that some members are receiving premature membership expiration notices so please bear with us while we resolve some technical matters. All members will be granted a full 12 months from date of joining or renewal.

Due to the expense of printing and mailing the Quick Release newsletter and the feedback from numerous members who prefer to read or download an electronic version, all members must now opt-in to have a copy mailed to their home. Please log on, click view profile at the top right of your screen, cursor down to the field entitled 'Quick Release Newsletter' and choose one of the two options.
Tell TBN about your favourite rides: While updating your profile, check the ride classifications and types you prefer. By doing so, you will be kept up to date with information that is pertinent only to those rides.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we continue to refine the new membership platform.

Diversions

Bikes win this battle!

If you have an amusing photo or video, please forward to publicity@tbn.ca and we'll try to get it into a future Chain of Events email.

Cheers everyone and have a great week of riding!
