TBN rides canceled through end of April

We'll get through this. Please stay safe!

TBN wishes you all the best of health in these difficult times, and urges you to comply with the public health guidelines for social distancing, pending the reopening of the Ontario economy. It's going to be a slow, steady process and we'll let you know, as soon as we can, when TBN rides will get under way again. We have so far canceled all events through the end of June, although we plan to reschedule the popular Niagara Bike and Hike adventure for the August long weekend.

Details will be available in future issues of this newsletter, on the TBN website and on other social media platforms

TBN goes virtual with travelogues, movie nights

TBN has launched a series of virtual events, including movie nights on Mondays and occasional presentations on bicycle travel. The next scheduled events are a movie on Monday, May 4, and a presentation by TBN communications director Rick MacMillan on cycling in Italy, which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6.

The presentations use Zoom, a free and easy-to-use video call app where you can see and hear other participants on the call. Details coming soon to the TBN website.

If you are interested in being a speaker at future events, please email Lora Flanagan at weekendtrips@tbn.ca.

Join TBNers on Zwift rides

COVID-19 curbs don't prohibit solo rides outdoors, but riding alone doesn't have the social aspect that we all enjoy on a TBN ride. To win that back, you can join other TBNers in the virtual world of Zwift. We ride "together," and chat using the Discord app. Riders can join a meetup and ride for as long they want. You must be a Zwift rider and use Discord in order to participate.

If want to join the group, please email technical@tbn.ca with your Zwift account name. Martin Lansche will send you a follow request, and you will have to follow Martin back. Then he will add you to the invitation list.

TBN introduced its popular ambassador role last year, pairing new members with club volunteers who will help them meet new people and enjoy new rides. The program will continue once we start this year's season. Please contact member experience director

The official TBN cycling season is canceled through the end of April as we adhere to social distancing guidelines mandated by the COVID-19 crisis. While cycling seems a stay-apart activity, there are too many times that riders are unacceptably close to each other for our rides to go ahead in safety. We hope you find ways to keep fit and to stay safe in these difficult times.

Please watch the website for updates about when TBN rides will get under way.

Reminders

TBN membership to be extendedBN membership to be extended

TBN is working on a way to extend all non-lapsed member renewal dates based on the length of time that our season is delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. In other words we will add days to your next renewal date after you pay for your 2020 renewal. Since we don't yet know when the lockdown will be lifted, you must renew your membership when it expires so that your membership does not lapse.

Cyclon, kickoff breakfast canceled

As mentioned in previous issues of Chain of Events, TBN has taken the sad decision to cancel both our May kickoff breakfast and the annual Cyclon long weekend. Restrictions required by COVID-19 mean neither event will be possible this year.
