Cycling Buddy

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants, TNTO will implement a Cycling Buddy approach that allows cyclists to pair with others who share a similar pace and riding style for the event.

How the Buddy Approach Works

  1. Self-Selection of Average Speed
    • Cyclists will choose their average riding speed from predefined categories (e.g., 20 to 22 km/h, 23 to 25 km/h, 26 to 30 km/h, etc.).
    • This speed should reflect the pace they can comfortably maintain throughout the event distance, including breaks and variations in terrain.
  2. Pairing on a Best-Effort Basis
    • Participants will be paired with others who have selected the same speed category.
    • While we will make every effort to find a suitable group for everyone, exact matches may not always be possible.
  3. Flexibility for Small Groups
    • In cases where multiple cyclists select the same speed, small groups may form to provide additional support and camaraderie.
  4. Communication and Check-Ins
    • Buddies or groups are encouraged to communicate before the event to align on expectations, riding style, and break preferences.

How to Select Your Average Speed

When choosing your speed category:

  • Be realistic about your fitness level and endurance over the full event distance.
  • Consider your experience with long rides and ability to maintain a consistent pace.
  • Keep in mind that riding in a group can sometimes improve overall efficiency but shouldn’t pressure you to exceed your comfort zone.

Benefits of the Buddy Approach

  • Safety: Having a buddy ensures support in case of mechanical issues or emergencies.
  • Motivation: Riding with someone at your pace can boost morale and keep you focused.
  • Navigation: Buddies can work together to follow the route and check for turns or detours.
  • Connection: It’s a great way to meet fellow cyclists and share the TNTO experience.

On the Day of the Event

  • Pairing details will be shared prior to the ride or at the start line.
  • If you need help finding your group, look for event organizers who can assist.
  • Cyclists who decide to adjust their pace during the ride are encouraged to communicate clearly with their group.

By using this approach, TNTO aims to enhance the ride experience while respecting individual abilities and fostering a spirit of community among participants.
