More weekend trips coming soon!

New trips are in the works, but we would love to hear from you about trip ideas, or if you'd like to organize a trip, or get on the trips planning committee - even better!. Your feedback and discussion on existing trips and new trips is vital to the program.  Contact Brenda at weekendtrips@tbn.ca.

Greeting Everyone

The first long weekend of the season approaches and that means that there are additional holiday rides on Victoria Day.  Thank you Queen Victoria for allowing TBN'ers to spend an extra day on their bikes!

For those of you that are new to TBN and hoping to learn more about which rides to join, then check out the TBN Ride Classifications; if it is your first ride and you are unsure, then try an easier ride to start with. Also, the Saturday Morning Ride is a great orientation ride.

Remember that as a current TBN member, no registration is required for regular weekly rides so just show up with your membership card to ride. You are also encouraged to invite non-members to try out a ride; they will be asked to sign a waiver and pay a $5 non-member fee. Should they decide to join at a later date, this $5 payment will be counted towards their membership. Everything anyone needs to know about joining the club can be found in the Membership FAQs.

The official TBN Spring Kick-off event is coming up on Saturday May 25 at Etienne Brule Park near The Old Mill. The Social Committee is planning a special morning that will include refreshments, information, prizes, education and followed by group rides. A representative from Cycle Canada will be on hand to talk to members about their latest accomplishments. Don't miss this opportunity to meet your fellow TBN'ers and find out more about the club.

The TBN Website - A Great Resource

Under the Resources tab on the home page, there is a list of other cycling events in the region that includes charity rides, gran fondos, weekend events and more. If you know of other rides in Southern Ontario, please submit same to webadmin@tbn.ca.

The TBN photo gallery on Flickr is starting to fill up with pics of early season rides. Remember to send your ride photos to  photoadmin@tbn.ca so that all TBN'ers can enjoy the pics. For those that post photos to Facebook, please forward those along too, as not all TBN members are on Facebook.

The Retailer and Services Discount Program  provides TBN members with discounts at participating businesses including these bikes shops: Cyclethpath Yonge/Eglinton, Gears (all 3 locations), Browns, La Bicicletta, Urbane, Pedal Performance and Silent Sports. Services include rentals, tours, fitness, courses, events and art. There is also a special offer from one of our partners: Pedal Magazine. If your favourite shop or service is not on the list, tell them about the discount program and encourage them to contact TBN to sign up.

Do you want to see more content on the website? Please send suggestions to webadmin@tbn.ca. In fact, if you offer to help create the content, that will improve the chances of it being posted and sooner.

Remember that TBN is a volunteer based club, so the more everyone can pitch in, the better for all of us. If you wish to volunteer but are not sure in what capacity, then please email president@tbn.ca.

Contest Winner

The last contest question was: Name a new TBN weekend event. The answer was Route Verte Cycling Tour. Unfortunately the trip was cancelled but stay tuned as the trip may be re-scheduled sometime in the future.

Congratulations to Joseph Lee who won a $25 gift certificate from our good friends at Cyclepath Norco Yonge Eglinton.

Check your Chain of Events email contest in two weeks as we will have a special prize to give away, worth $150! Note: The contest will revolve around the information in your membership profile so make sure it is up to date.

You will not be receiving a printed copy unless you indicate so in your membership profile.

Due to the expense of printing and mailing the Quick Release newsletter and the feedback from numerous members who prefer to read or download an electronic version, all members must now opt-in to have a copy mailed to their home. Please log on, click view profile at the top right of your screen, click edit profile, cursor down to the field entitled 'Quick Release Newsletter' and choose one of the two options.
Tell TBN about your favourite rides: While updating your profile, check the ride classifications and types of rides that you prefer. By doing so, you will be kept up to date with information that is pertinent only to those rides.

TBN People

Eileen Harbinson has decided to retire from TBN after 11 years of outstanding service.  Eileen was the type of volunteer who ensured that anything that needed to be done was done.  She was the person who took on jobs that others would not or could not do; no job was too small or too large for Eileen.

At the beginning of her tenure at TBN, Eileen researched the routes for Easy Rollers and Leisure Wheelers, and led many of the Leisure Wheeler rides and when she could no longer ride, she continued to volunteer.   As the TBN Membership Director, she worked tirelessly to ensure that members received their laminated membership cards and she spent hours laminating each and every card.     As a valued member of the Cyclon committee, she helped research the locations for many a Cyclon, organized the tour leaders, organized the volunteers from the colleges, got up early to ensure that everyone was well fed and even walked the dogs.  As the assistant director of TNTO, she focused on ensuring that everyone was comfortable and well fed.  When Eileen volunteered at the booths at the Ride for Heart and the Bike Show, she made sure that everyone she met understood the outstanding benefits of being a TBN member.

We are sure that this is not a complete list of all Eileen has done for TBN; one of her most important contributions has been her positive attitude, willingness to take on any job that needed to be done and passion about TBN.

Eileen: As a personal note from the President and the TBN membership, we really hope that after a chance to rest and re-energize that you will come back to volunteer at TBN. We will miss your sense of humour, warm smile and willingness to help-out wherever needed.

Thanks you so much, Eileen, for who you are and everything you have done for TBN.

Carole Hill has agreed to replace Eileen as Membership Director.  Carole  has been a long-time member of TBN and a very active volunteer; her volunteer activities include researching and leading many Easy Roller and Leisure Wheeler rides and co-directing Cyclon.

With Carole's outstanding organizational skills and willingness to contribute, we know that Carole will provide great leadership as the Membership Director.

If you have an amusing photo or video, please forward to publicity@tbn.ca and we'll try to get it into a future Chain of Events email.

Cheers everyone, Happy Holiday Weekend, and have a great week of riding!
