Summer is almost here and things are getting exciting! Trips, social events, new education programs, and so much cycling — the good weather is here, so let's make the most of it. Oh, and Cyclon, our premier event, is almost sold out, grab your spot now!
On that note — we're looking for some amazing members to join our Board of Directors. Our Touring Director and Finance Director are moving on after this riding season, and we're so grateful for everything they've given this club. We are also in search of a Member Experience Director. Now it's your turn.
These roles are a real chance to shape TBN's future. Interested? Step up — we'd love to have you.

Do you want to increase your cycling skill level? Be a safer and more defensive rider? Improve your safety on the road? Increase your confidence about riding on city streets? Whether you are a new or a long-term rider, there is always something to learn, some skills to improve and, admit it, some bad habits to unlearn. Perhaps you are a TBN ride leader, but you are uncertain about what skills or behaviours to demonstrate and to encourage as you lead your ride. Click here for more info and to register.

New this season: special regrouping rides. TBN has designated certain Tourist Class rides as "regrouping," meaning there will be an extra ride leader who will stop at points during the ride to allow slower riders who ride at an Urban Roller pace to catch up before continuing. These rides are great for those newer to riding in the country. Details will be on the individual ride event pages and shown on the calendar. Upcoming rides of this type: May 27, June 12, July 1, & July 17. Questions? Info@tbn.ca.

Program-X are special pop-up rides that could be any level of ride on any day of the week that could show up on the calendar anytime. If you'd like to be notified when one of these is added, you can register to receive emails here.

Program Profile: Sunday Country Cruises
|
Country Cruises are Tourist Class rides typically with route distances in the range of 60, 75, or 90+ kms. There are two, sometimes three, route options for each country cruises ride. The pace is on average 20 - 26 km/hr. Riders should feel comfortable cycling in a small group but also be able to independently follow route instructions if they are unexpectedly separated from a group.
All CCs have one or two designated ride leaders but there are no designated sweeps. At the beginning of each ride, the ride leader(s) will introduce themselves, provide a general overview of the route, highlight important cycling etiquette and road safety tips and announce which route/distance they plan to ride. Regardless, all participants, whether new to CCs or seasoned CC'ers, will always be welcomed by ride leaders and fellow registrants on any of the routes offered.
Sunday Country cruises vary their starting locations and areas throughout the GTA with many in the rolling hills to the northeast and northwest of the Toronto area.

We are all super excited to be out on the roads during our too short season! But don't forget, TBN offers not only the most rides each week, but also the most social events each month. If you need a rest day, are injured, or just want to hang with like minded cycling enthusiasts in a social setting, TBN has you covered. Ken Lackman, TBN's social director, has social events down to an art. Monthly social events, some with music and dancing, karaoke, pub quiz and an endless list of cuisines to sample all around the city, keep this community going even when not on bikes. Register to join us and meet TBN'ers who might ride at a different level but are just as much fun!

Important notice about using RideWithGPS
Many of our TBN events offer multiple RideWithGPS route choices. These collections of routes are contained in what RideWithGPS calls Events. Unfortunately, a TBN Event (stored in our "Wild Apricot" system) is not the same thing as a RideWithGPS Event. Joining a RideWithGPS Event does not register you for the ride in Wild Apricot.
So for clarity, this is how you register for a TBN Event. You start by clicking on the Register button for the event in www.tbn.ca calendar (looks like this)
|
|
|
Note that clicking (RSVP, and subsequently saying you will attend the event) in RideWithGPS does not register you for a TBN Event (the screenshot below is from a RideWithGPS Event):
|
|
|
Nor does clicking the +Join Event button as seen on your phone (from the RideWithGPS app):

TBN is always growing, just like the cycling community in the GTA. If you know anyone who would like to ride with us, at $50 a year, it's a deal! Please share this newsletter with cycling friends so they can join the fun.
