Club News

The season is on and TBN'ers aren't wasting any time. The May long weekend saw two TBN trips—the Cannonball 300 bikepacking trip and the Niagara Hike-n-Bike trip—both passing through Port Colbourne but sadly not at the same time! We couldn't have asked for better weather, except for maybe a torrential downpour or two, and some winds, somehow always headwinds? But we don't let that bring us down!

TBN'ers have received their new kit and are wearing it proudly on the roads, trails and in coffee shops around the GTA. If you've missed the first order and want to get some TBN apparel, there's still time. You can order until the end of June for delivery late this season. See the TBN store page for details on what's available to order and how.

THANK YOU TBN

Cyclon is now sold out! If you’d like to attend please join the waitlist via the calendar, as cancellations are common.

The Cyclon FAQ page has also been updated. If you’re travelling to Brock University by GO Transit, please review the Transportation section, including bike/e-bike rules and battery information.

We’re also still looking for two ride leaders for Monday: one Urban Roller and one Leisure Wheeler ride. Interested? Email cyclon@tbn.ca. New ride leaders are welcome; there’s plenty of time to practice before the event!

Read all updated info about E-Bikes at Cyclon FAQ under ACCOMMODATIONS

All of TBN's regular cycling programs are up to speed. Tuesday Ravine Rides, Wednesday Wheelies, Freedom Fridays, Wednesday and Friday Evening Rides, Saturday Urban roller and Tourist rides, Sunday Country Cruises and popup Program-X Rides too! Check the calendar often to see what's coming up!

New this season: special regrouping rides. TBN has designated certain Tourist Class rides as "regrouping," meaning there will be an extra ride leader who will stop at points during the ride to allow slower riders who ride at an Urban Roller pace to catch up before continuing. These rides are great for those newer to riding in the country. Details will be on the individual ride event pages and shown on the calendar. Upcoming rides of this type: June 12, July 1, and July 17. Questions? Info@tbn.ca.

Program-X are special pop-up rides that could be any level of ride on any day of the week that could show up on the calendar anytime. If you'd like to be notified about these rides, you can register to receive emails here.

Program Profile:

TBN's No-Drop Country Rides filling a niche

Alice Chan, coordinator of TBN’s No-Drop Country Rides, created one of the club’s most leisurely class of rides a few years back, in order to cater to Leisure Wheeler riders looking for cycling opportunities in the country rather than in the city. These rides are filling a niche for those who are comfortable with some hills and with rides of 45-70 km, but at a slower, more relaxing social pace (typically 14-18 kph on the flats).

There is an understanding that some people will be slower on the hills, but all are assured that the group will stay together, reassembling at the top of hills and at major intersections and turns. These are also recently being referred to as No Rush Country Rides.

“Why rush? Just enjoy it,” says Alice. “Our major focus is to enjoy the scenery, visit places with frequent stops and breaks for coffee or lunch, to take pictures or just rest and take it all in.”

Owing to the non-rush nature of this class of ride, a typical No-Drop Country ride will generally last almost a full day. Guest riders are welcome.

Alice has also initiated a group of non-stop endurance training rides, as a one-month pilot project. The inaugural outing took place on May 10 and featured a loop tour of Holland Marsh. The second is set for May 30, beginning at 8 am. Check the calendar for other dates in June.
