Italo Bravo,

TBN president

President's Message

It's hard to believe how quickly the summer is flying by! Despite a bit of a rainy start to the season, there's been no shortage of opportunities to get out and enjoy the roads and trails, whether in the city or the beautiful countryside. There's plenty of riding season ahead, with many more rides and events to come. Of course, the highlight of the summer will be Cyclon, coming up on the August long weekend.

Our social calendar has been just as busy, with breakfasts, dinners, karaoke, and other get-togethers bringing members of all riding levels together. Those connections off the bike are just as important as the rides themselves, and they're a big part of what makes TBN such a special community.

None of this happens by accident. Every ride, trip, social event and club program is made possible by an amazing team of volunteers: ride leaders, coordinators, board members, and many others working behind the scenes. Their time, enthusiasm and dedication are what keep TBN rolling.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, participated, and helped make this such a memorable season so far. I hope to see many of you out on the road - and at Cyclon.

Italo Bravo, TBN president

TBN Needs You: Help Shape your club's future

Every ride, trip, social event, and club program happens because of an incredible team of volunteers: ride leaders, coordinators, board members, and many others working behind the scenes. As our club continues to grow and evolve, we're working to preserve the traditions that long-time members value while creating new opportunities for riders of all abilities. That takes people with ideas, energy, and a willingness to help.

This fall, several Board positions will become vacant, and we're actively looking for members who would like to get involved. Without volunteers stepping into leadership roles, it becomes increasingly difficult to offer the rides, trips, and programs that make TBN the vibrant club it is today.

Serving on the TBN board doesn't mean doing everything yourself. It means working as part of a team to help guide the club, support our volunteers, and ensure TBN continues to thrive for years to come.

There are many ways to contribute. You might enjoy leading rides, designing routes, organizing trips or social events, helping with communications, technology, finance, sponsorship, membership, or simply bringing fresh ideas to the table. Whatever your skills or experience, there's likely a role where you can make a real difference.

If you've ever thought, "Maybe I should get more involved," this is the perfect time. We'd love to talk with you about how you can help shape TBN's future. Contact info@tbn.ca New board members are announced at the AGM in November so now's your chance!

If you placed a TBN apparel order this summer, your order will be shipped to KindHuman and you will be informed when you can pick up. If you have not ordered yet, there will be one more order this season placed at the end of the summer for fall delivery. See jerseys and all other items available at tbn.ca/store

A Friendly Reminder When Wearing Your TBN Jersey

Every time you wear a TBN jersey, you're representing our club and helping shape how cyclists are viewed in the community.

Please remember to obey all traffic laws and treat fellow road users - including drivers, pedestrians, and other cyclists - with courtesy and respect. A friendly wave, a smile, or a simple "thank you" can go a long way toward creating positive interactions.

Let's all strive to be ambassadors for TBN by riding safely, respectfully, and setting a positive example wherever we ride.

Regrouping Rides: New this season

Certain TBN Tourist Class rides are designated as "regrouping," meaning there will be an extra ride leader who will stop at points during the ride to allow slower riders who ride at an Urban Roller pace to catch up before continuing. Upcoming rides of this type: July 17 and July 19. Details will be on the individual ride event pages and shown on the calendar. Questions? Info@tbn.ca.

Program Profile: Wednesday Wheelies and Freedom Fridays

Looking for an opportunity to boost your endurance, meet some very nice people and take in some challenging climbs, all in the beautiful countryside of southern Ontario? Wednesday Wheelies and Freedom Fridays might be for you. Two of TBN’s most popular Tourist-style ride categories, FF and WW have often shared routes over the years, and this year they are now overseen by the same four ride coordinators, all very experienced road cyclists: Martin Lansche, Dale Alexander, Nathalie DaSilva and Bran Brcic.

WW offers three ride distances on each outing, ranging from 60 to often more than 100 km, at average speeds of more than 20 kph. FF rides include two or three distance options, generally ranging from 60 to 80 km, again at a pace of 20 kph or more. Rides in both groups all start remotely, usually from a point that is an hour or slightly more from Toronto, and include stops for lunch or coffee. This year, TBN has started a pilot program whereby those new to WW or FF are welcome to sign up (on only a few specific dates) for a shorter route of around 50 km, at a slightly slower pace and with regrouping by a ride leader working specifically with that group. Check the calendar for those dates. Questions about WW and FF? Email the coordinators at wedwheelie@tbn.ca or freedomfridays@tbn.ca.

Upcoming Overnight Trips

This year's trips include rides of all lengths, on all surfaces (rail trails, gravel roads, paved roads), all types of accommodations (hotels, dorms, camping) and experiences (wineries, breweries, cafes, restaurants, and waterfalls, big and small). Some trips require bikepacking, some do not. Each link will take you to the event page for more details on each specific trip.
