President's Message

- Paul Min, TBN Club President

Dear Friends,

As we welcome October, I would like to thank everyone for your continued enthusiasm and support. I am pleased to share that I have completed rides with all of our major club programs. The best part of my job is meeting so many wonderful people and spending time riding with them. It has been a rewarding experience to share the friendship and teamwork that make our club special.

I encourage everyone to continue participating in our upcoming rides and activities. Please ride safely, stay visible, and enjoy the beautiful autumn season.

Club News

There are still quite a few regularly scheduled weekly rides and you never know when a Program-X ride could pop up! Check the TBN Calendar and website regularly for upcoming rides and events.

The next 20 upcoming events can always be found here.

Reminder about construction areas

When you encounter a construction area or road closure on a ride, please go around it rather than riding through. This is important for everyone’s safety, insurance considerations, and for setting a positive example as cyclists in our community.

Please also don’t post photos or videos of yourself or others riding through construction areas. As a club, we want to model safe, responsible cycling and project the right image to the public.

Thanks for helping TBN lead by example!

You Answered...

In the last CoE, we asked: “Is Windsor too far away for a possible future Cyclon (2028 or beyond)?” Here’s what you said:

Cyclon 2027 will be at Brock University again for the 40th anniversary year since the first Cyclon in 1987. For future, there were suggestions for Guelph, Kingston, Ottawa and other locations - thanks for all the ideas! The Cyclon Committee is already hard at work researching potential locations for this epic TBN event. There’s a lot to consider when choosing a location for 150+ cyclists, including accommodations, ride routes that don’t require remote starts, dining options, logistics and more. So please keep the suggestions coming - and trust the Cyclon Committee to do their homework!

If you'd like to contribute before or during a future Cyclon, please reach out to the Cyclon committee at cyclon@tbn.ca.

Member Profiles: What's your cycling story?

Vicky Laurens

For Vicky Laurens, cycling began in the early 2000s as cross-training for running. After moving to Ottawa, her bike also became a primary means of transportation. She began road cycling in 2007 and quickly discovered that cycling was becoming a passion of its own.

Today, Vicky mostly joins TBN’s country cruise and program-x rides, along with solo trail rides, indoor cycling and cross-country skiing in the off-season.

She first joined TBN after discovering the club at the 2007 Spring Bike Show, rejoining in 2010 to add more variety to her cycling. Since becoming a ride leader in 2011, she has led many rides including Saturday Morning, Country Cruise, Program-X, Backroad Rambles and Cyclon rides. She was also involved in bringing TNTO to life in 2025 after a few years hiatus.

But for Vicky, TBN is about much more than riding. “Cycling is only half the story. I firmly believe in giving back to the communities where we live and ride, and volunteering with the club is my way of making a meaningful contribution.”

Since 2020, Vicky has designed new routes and refreshed classic ones, always looking for ways to keep rides safe, interesting and engaging. She also believes the socializing should continue after the ride.

“The social side of our club is just as important as the time we spend in the saddle. True connections are built both on and off the bike.”

Her après-ride socials began during the pandemic with informal gatherings in parking lots and parks - and proved so popular that the tradition continues today.

For Vicky, those shared stories, friendships and post-ride laughs are a big part of what makes TBN special.
